The Rock: Will His WWE Title Shot Make 2013 the Biggest Royal Rumble Ever?

  •          On last Monday's 1,000th broadcast of Raw,  The Rock   announced that he would return at January's Royal Rumble to challenge for the WWE Championship.
  •          It was a shocking announcement, if only because most expected the title match to take place at either August's Summer Slam or next March's WrestleMania 29.
  •          The addition of the monumental championship match to the Royal Rumble card immediately restores prestige to an event that, though beloved, has become just another stop on the road to WrestleMania in recent years.
  •          Regardless of whether or not one is a fan of "The Great One," it is difficult to argue that his returns to the ring aren't major occurrences.
  •          Add to his in-ring appearance at Royal Rumble the fact that The Rock is challenging for the most prestigious prize in the company (not including John Cena's merchandise royalties), and you have a match on the undercard that means as much as the Royal Rumble itself.
  •          It has been a very long time since World Wrestling Entertainment has been able to promote a Royal Rumble event with a one-two punch of a main event like it will in 2013. The last time would have been in 2000, when Mick Foley—reprising his Cactus Jack persona—challenged then-champion Triple H in a street fight while The Rock headlined the Rumble match itself.

  •          2013 should eclipse even that show.
  •          With The Rock, CM Punk, John Cena, Triple H, Brock Lesnar, Rey Mysterio, The Big Show and plenty of surprises likely to appear on the three-hour event, the Royal Rumble will be the most star-studded pay-per-view since WrestleMania 28.
  •          The Rock challenging for the WWE Championship will not only result in one of the biggest, most-hyped Royal Rumbles in history, it will be the most watched in—at the very least—10 years.
  •          And that is very good news for a company hoping to put on the biggest and greatest WrestleMania of all time in East Rutherford, N.J., just two months later.

'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' Pushed Back to March 2013 for 3D Conversion

  • It was definitely a bit of a shock when Paramount announced that "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" has been pushed back from a June 29 release date to March 29, 2013, but two new reports have come out making big claims that the release date changed for other reasons.
  • According to Deadline, the movie's test screening supposedly did not go as expected. One of the main issues present was reportedly a lack of "G.I. Joe" leading man Channing Tatum in the script, and that's something that Paramount is looking to remedy in re shoots. Spoilers after the jump.
  • Before getting into this further, it's important to remember that all of this should be taken with a grain of a salt. Without official words from the studios, it's hard to say what's fact and what's speculation.
  • Both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter are saying that a major reason for the change of release dates is because Tatum gets killed off early in the movie. That explains why he's rarely shown in the trailers for the flick and is noticeably absent from its movie poster. "Tatum’s character originally died in 'Retaliation,' but it’s now possible he will be resurrected," THE writes.
  • Keep in mind that "Retaliation" was written before Tatum blew up this year thanks to dual successes in "The Vow" and "21 Jump Street" (and, fingers crossed, "Magic Mike"). So now, according to Deadline, audiences are upset about the opportunity for on screen chemistry between Tatum and Dwayne Johnson that was "aborted" preemptively because of Tatum's early death.
  • So will he be brought back entirely, or just left alive longer? All of this is speculative and unofficial, but it does make sense. Another big reason it was pushed back is because of the way this summer is being cruel to big-budget blockbusters. "John Carter" and "Battleship" didn't appeal to the masses, and both did poorly (all things considered) in the box office. At the same time, "Men in Black 3" and "The Avengers," which people have been looking forward to for years, trampled everything in their paths.
  • That means Paramount has to swallow a lot of money to hopefully make more money later on. The studio already bought the movie an expensive Super Bowl TV spot and started their physical marketing campaign, but now has bumped the movie nine months and lost all that momentum. It's a gamble, but if it works, "Retaliation" will end up making a lot more money in the long run, and also be facing off against other movies in a less densely populated landscape. So far, "Jack the Giant Killer" and "The Host" come out the week before "Retaliation" and the "Evil Dead" remake comes out two weeks after, but it doesn't have any competition opening weekend.
  • As for that 3-D? Well, it almost guarantees more sales. According to a source close to Deadline, people who saw the movie early were asking "Why wasn't it going to be in 3-D?" The source said "We didn't have time for it to be in 3-D," but now they do. "Not being in 3-D will cost us a ton of business internationally," the source said, and now Paramount is gearing up for a much strong 2013 with "Retaliation" added to the line-up.

Survivor Series Tag Team Match The Rock and John Cena v/s Miz and R-Truth

  • You are incredibly excited to see The Rock in action as he headlines Survivor Series for the first time in years.
  • You can't wait for him to come out and show everyone what the Great One can do.
  • The Rock comes out to a monster ovation and proceeds to show absolutely no ring rust. He is the same Rock we always loved.
  • He is taking out Miz and R-Truth back and forth. He lets John Cena in to monstrous boos, who proceeds to get beat down until Rock enters again.
  • Again, you can't wait to see Rock show off his skill—until suddenly, Cena comes from behind and hits him with an AA.
  • The Miz crawls over to Rock and pins him for the three count.
  • Instead, Rock tags in, cleans house and, much to the crowd's delight, hits the People's Elbow for the three count.
  • The crowd is absolutely electrified. You stand up, yelling and cheering, happy that your money was well-spent.
  • The Rock came back and looked better than ever.
  • I give this small story as a general statement

He’s been dubbed The Great One, The People’s Champion and The Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment, but mere words fail to capture the essence of the most charismatic Superstar of all time. Although the catchphrase “boots to asses” comes awfully close.
The first third-generation Superstar in WWE history, the man born Dwayne Johnson was destined for sports-entertainment immortality since birth, but his rise to the status of a pop culture icon was harder to predict. In the time since he made his debut as a grinning good guy at the 1996 Survivor Series.
